I am not sure which is my favourite. Definitely either 2/3. The coloured version is not very thrilling. The others suit the quirkiness of the Bride better, I feel. I thought it would be fun to show the penciled and inked versions too.

My third favourite X- Men, or X- Woman (what's the PC term?) Rogue. Ah really like the way she talks!

Wonder Woman: Warrior Princess

Partly inspired by Darwyn Cooke's design of the Amazonian in New Frontier (probably my favourite comic book). Obviously my work is nothing compared to Darwyn's work. The sword and shield are based on real greek designs. What I wanted was a design that could be used in the city setting and back on Themyscira (country of the Amazons). Something that Darwyn Cooke did that truly is inspired in New Frontier was making Wondie actually taller than Superman. He illustrates her as muscly, but feminine at the same time and I have no idea how he does it. 

This is when you realise it in New Frontier. First of all Wondie is sitting down, so you don't notice it. Then when she stands up she dwarfs Superman and if you can do that and tell him to get out, then you've got balls-- or ovaries, whatever the female equivalent is.

Oh, by the way. Don't you think Olivia Wilde should play Wonder Woman. To me she doesn't look like someone pretending to be an Amazonian Warrior. I also think she looks slightly mediterranean, because, what people seem to forget is Wonder Woman is greek!

The Flash

The Flash! Which Flash? Barry Allen, Bart Allen, Wally West, you choose. Me personally, I think it's the original, not Jay Garrick original, but silver age Barry Allen original. I like the washed out feel to this. i decided not to make the Flash overly muscly because he need to look quick and agile, though you have to give him some muscle, because he still needs to knock the stuffing out of Gorilla Grodd.

I love the Flash, because as we all know:

"No-one can outrun The FLASH!"

SHAZAM!

One of my favourite characters ever. All orphan Billy Batson has to do is shout the magic word SHAZAM! and he turns into Captain Marvel. 

Conquerer Worm

A design on the force mentioned in the Edgar Allen Poem (sorry, couldn't resist). The name first came to my attention after the Hellboy series of the same name. It was also used as the American title for the Vincent Price film Witchfinder General (1968, Michal Reeves), which was named Edgar Allen Poe's Conquerer Worm to cash in on Price's earlier success in Roger Corman's Poe series. It has nothing to do with Poe's work and is a great film on the Salem Witch Trials. You got me talking about Vincent Price.

So the design was influenced by the many creations from the Cthulhu Mythos. Something that was over the top, yet gross, yet fascinating, yet other worldly, yet beautify... well maybe not that far. The mouth was inspired by the Giger Alien, (if you're gonna steal, then steal from the best!) and the body was just me thinking what the Emperor of Worms be like, a wrinkly, grotesque mound body fat. I like the spindly little arms, too unnatural for a normal animal. 

Werewolf Head

Wolf-Man

My werewolf is based on the more traditional werewolves that appeared in films such as:


Werewolf of London (1935)

The Wolf-Man (1941)

The Curse of the Werewolf (1961)

I have always preferred this style to the more wolf-like and it is simply because you still see the human in the face. Modern werewolves are too monstrous, trying to be tough and bullish. 

To me they just stop being scary. Above are examples from Van Helsing (2004. They just become a dragon for the hero to slay, instead of a supernatural transformation.

The original design is better because I can believe that this was once a human. Where in the werewolf mythos, does it say you become a huge monster. It doesn't, your body merely turns animalistic and that is why I prefer it. Plus I find seeing the human's eyes through the make-up sad and therefore more frightening. So there we are... my lecture on werewolves.

Again I find the feet gross, the way they are suspended like that.

I AM OZ! The Great and Powerful!

Although the Wicked Witch is universally accepted as the scariest part of The Wizard of Oz (1939), for me personally it was always that ominous fake head the wizard had. I mean jeez-- This is the "Wonderful Wizard of Oz!"

Sailor Scouts

I've been re-watching Sailor Moon recently, forgetting it's actually a really cool show. It's got superheroes, Demons, Fairy Tales, Monsters, everything. Just because everyone of the lead characters are female people write it off as just a silly girls show, but it's not. It's more like Buffy the Vampire Slayer for kids. Anyway I got Photoshop recently and decided to draw what I was watching. So here you are, my three favourite Sailor Scouts in my style.
